Free help is always available for VA claims
You do not have to pay anyone to file or appeal a VA disability claim. Accredited Veterans Service Organizations and government offices provide free assistance.
Calls are answered by an automated intake assistant and may be recorded with your consent.
Which Veterans Service Organizations provide free help?
Examples of national organizations that provide free, accredited representation include:
- Disabled American Veterans (DAV)
- Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
- The American Legion
Many other organizations are also accredited. You can search for an accredited representative at VA.gov. Accreditation can be verified at the VA Office of General Counsel: VA OGC accreditation search.
What do county and state veterans service officers do?
Most counties and states have veterans service officers who help veterans file claims and appeals at no cost. Contact your county veterans office or state department of veterans affairs for local assistance.
Where can I find official VA information?
The Department of Veterans Affairs website (VA.gov) contains claim forms, decision review information, and the rates tables. Free help with claims is available from accredited Veterans Service Organizations as noted above.
What is the Veterans Crisis Line?
If you or a veteran you know is in crisis, dial 988 then press 1, or text 838255. The Veterans Crisis Line is available 24 hours a day.
